Mary Scilzo

Paramedic, Huron Valley Ambulance

Mary joined Huron Valley Ambulance in 2021 as a Mobility Transport Technician while working toward her EMT license. Mary served with us as an EMT for three years before earning her paramedic license in early 2024. Mary serves as a paramedic, a Team Leader at UM Football games, and as a member of the HazMat and National Response Teams. On top of her EMS training, Mary also completed her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.

Mary is known for being detail-oriented, caring, and always putting her patients first. She continuously goes above and beyond and puts in extra effort, regardless of the situation, supporting her coworkers and fellow first responders.

Mary was part of the National Response team deployed on a response to Hurricane Helene, providing much-needed aid to the people of North Carolina. Mary was deployed to Asheville, NC, and the surrounding areas for 37 days. At the end of the deployment, the NC Division of Emergency Management presented Mary and her partner with the state flag of North Carolina that flew over the Regional Coordination Center-West, a rare honor.

Mary, your compassion for patients and your dedication to EMS and the community are invaluable to HVA and the field of EMS. You lead by example and demonstrate the qualities needed to excel as an EMS practitioner. We thank you for being part of the HVA team and are proud to call you a Star of Life.
